R-F-T SeriesTelefunken Elektroakustik AK-47 MkII
The TELEFUNKEN AK-47 MkII is a large diaphragm, multi-pattern, vacuum tube microphone with superior high frequency detail and a rich low-end response. Designed around a sub-miniature pentode tube and a large format output transformer, the AK-47 MkII is reminiscent of a cross between the historic M49 and U47. Manufactured and tested in TELEFUNKEN’s Connecticut facility to strict standards for quality and consistency, the AK-47 MkII is a uniquely voiced tube condenser mic for a variety of sources.
The amplifier found in the AK-47 MkII features a new proprietary circuit designed around a NOS (New Old Stock) EF732/5840W and a nickel core BV8 transformer. The EF732/5840W tube is military grade and selected for its exceptionally low noise and low microphonics. The BV8 transformer has been rebuilt to the same spec of the historic BV8 found in vintage U47 and U48 microphones, a crucial component in creating their iconic sound.
The AK-47 MkII features a dual membrane, 1” center-terminated capsule providing superior high frequency detail, a forward mid-range, and rich low-end response. The AK-47 MkII will capture any source, especially a vocal, and add that classic vintage flavor full of warmth while maintaining high fidelity clarity. Its naturally forward mid-range can help a male or female vocal stay present in a mix with minimal to no processing. The AK-47 MkII is also a fantastic microphone for an array of instrument and room micing applications. Designed to take the punch of the heavy sound pressure level of a guitar amp or kick drum, it still has the delicate and intimate air that is usually found in more expensive microphones. Thus, the AK-47 MkII is great on vocals, instruments both quiet and loud, capturing room ambience, and more. The power supply features a 9-position polar pattern selector for added versatility and superior accuracy.
The AK-47 MkII utilizes standardized metalwork to reduce production costs while retaining high quality electronics. Capsules are individually tested by TELEFUNKEN in an anechoic chamber for proper frequency response, and vacuum tubes are burned in for 48 hours and tested for noise and gain prior to installation. The circuit board features wide gold-plated ENIG traces and through hole components. The microphone is entirely hand assembled in TELEFUNKEN’s Connecticut facility, finished in a black powder coated body with sleek chrome-plated hardware and a black and silver TELEFUNKEN diamond logo.
Due to its flexibility in application, the AK-47 MkII is also available and excellent for use in matched stereo pairs. Drums, piano, brass instruments, ensembles, orchestras, and room micing come through with impressive warmth, clarity, and expansive stereo imaging.
