In our endless
search for the best, we sometimes find some very unique overlooked
accessory products. Two of the most unique, useful, and exceptional
accessory product lines we have found are the Pauly Superscreen
pop filters, and the Sabra-Som line of modular and adaptive
mic stand accessories.
The entire
Sabra-Som line is very cool, because the parts used are well
thought out, fit well and can be used interchangeably to do
all kinds of things.

here for the quick list
At the
heart of it all are four basic parts:
1. Articulated
Elbow Stand Mount:
The Articulated Elbow Stand Mount is similar to the bottom section
a traditional mic clip that you screw onto a mic stand. Instead
of the top being a mic holder, it has a hexagonal opening for
a Sabra-Som Hex Bar. You can insert long or short bars to get
where you want a mic to go. A big wing nut tightens everything
down, and the mount has teeth as well as a rubber compression
ring inside to enable it to remain stable even with very heavy
loads. All metal construction, with brass female threaded insert
for 5/8” mic stand mounting. This is much heavier duty
device that you will find with most mic mounts.
2. Hex
Bar:
This is an aluminum metal hexagonal bar of various lengths and
is used to connect multiple things together or hold multiple
mic mounts (Threaded Towers) and inserted into Articulated Elbows.
3. Threaded
Tower:
This is essentially the top of a normal mic stand with both
5/8” male and 3/8” male threads for US (5/8) and
European (3/8) threading. The bottom of the Tower is a hex opening
and set screw that can be slid along a Sabra-Som Hex Bar for
mounting a mic to the bar. The Threaded Tower can be positioned
anywhere around the Hex Bar for mounting mics at different angles
or positions.
4. Magic
Clamp:
This is an alternative mounting method for situations where
a normal mic stand won’t work. Its essentially a “claw”
that can hold round tubes (like a mic stand) or rectangular
shapes (like drum hardware) or odd shapes (like a drum hoop).
The Magic Clamp has a hole for mounting a Sabra-Som Articulated
Elbow, enabling bars or shock mounts to be used in difficult
circumstances without trouble.
Now
that you know the Sabra-Som parts array, here’s the packages
made from these parts.
Sabra-Som
SSM1 Universal Shock Mount:
Finally! A replacement shock mount from Sabra-Som that works
like the very best studio versions, is inexpensive and works
with any mic! We have tried lots of solutions, and this little
guy decouples the mic from “thumps” better than
anything else we know of, regardless of price.
This clever
little design uses powerful elastics on two rings that can be
moved closer or farther apart along a hexagonal metal bar. The
SSM 1 fits any diameter microphone up to 2.5 inches. You can
mount anything in the Sabra-Som SSM1 from a multi-pound large
diaphragm tube mic to a lavalier mic-even a shotgun (use two
SSM1’s and a ST2 below).
If you lost
your old shock mount, must solve “thumping” on the
desk, floor or podium, this is the one! Amazingly sturdy, it
should last you a lifetime.

SSM1/SL
Universal Shock Mount with Speed Lock
This is for those of you that must connect and disconnect shock
mounts frequently from mic stands. A little “speed lock”
has one half of the lock permanently mounted to the shock mount,
the half of the lock screws on to a mic stand. It is a spring
loaded locking system for connecting the shock mount to a mic
stand in one quick turn. Very clever!

ST2 Two Mic Bar
I
Need It!

So you need to use two mics and using two stands is a waste
of money?
You bet, here’s the solution! The ST2 Two Mic Bar makes
dual mic mounting simple and easy on a single mic stand or boom.
The ST2
consists of
1- One 8” Hex Bar (mics can be up to 7” apart)
2- Two Threaded Towers (5/8 and 3/8 thread)
3- One Articulated Elbow Stand Mount(5/8 female thread)
You can slide the Threaded Towers for mic clips or shock mounts
along the Hex Bar and have them as close as 1 inch or as far
apart as 7 inches. Mount two mics side by side, or one mic at
0 degrees and another at 90 degrees. Lock them down with thumbscrews.
The Articulated Elbow that holds the Hex Bar can be tilted left
to right, or up and own, depending on what you need to do.
An ST2 is ideal for stereo X/Y micing, used vertically for above
and below applications such as two mics on an amp or acoustic
guitar, or for drummers when you need two tom mics. Nice handy
little device you’ll find a lot of uses for!

ST4 Four Mic Bar
I
Need It!
One
ST4 comes with:
1) one 12” Hex Bar (outside mics can be up to 11”
apart)
2) four Threaded Towers
3) one Articulated Elbow Stand Mount
Like the ST2 above, the ST4 uses 4 sliding mic mounts on a longer
11 inch bar so you mount up to four microphones on one mic stand.
Four mic mounts can be individually moved along the bar, the
bar itself can be tilted left to right or used vertically.

SMC Magic Clamp Kit
I
Need It!
The Sabra-Som Magic Clamp is a whole kit of cool stuff especially
for drummers or for folks who must mount mics in odd places.

and can be clamped to round tubes from ¼ inch to 1-1/8
inch in diameter or rectangular rods to 1 ½ inches in
diameter.
This Magic
Clamp grips a mic stand pole, a boom arm, drum hardware (drum
hoop, cymbal stands, etc) - almost anything. An Articulated
Elbow is attached to the Magic Clamp, then a Hex Bar inserted
and one or more Threaded Towers can be slid along the Hex Bar
and set with lock screws.
Supplied
with the Magic Clamp Kit are:
1) One Magic Clamp
2) One Articulated Elbow Stand Mount
3) One Threaded Tower
4) Four Hex Bars, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 inches long.
You

SPF Pop Filter Kit
I
Need It!
Pop Filters are an important accessory for use in large diaphragm
vocal mics, especially for Broadcast, where moisture accumulating
on the capsule causes capsules to temporarily short out and
lose output. Most capsule repairs are a direct result of mics
being used without filters and accumulating years of spit from
vocalists mouths. Yuuck! The mounting of pop filters is often
the biggest challenge for goosenecks are noisy and lose their
stiffness, and other systems do not allow for varying distances
or positions. The Sabra-Som crew has solved this problem with
the Pop Filter Kit. The kit contains a dual membrane (replaceable)
pop filter that mounts to the Sabra-Som Hex Bar. Two Hex Bars
and Sabra-Som Articulated Hex Connectors are used to enable
you to go “up and over” the mic for positive Pop
Filter positioning and maximum clearance under the mic when
singers/broadcasters must read. An SSM1 can be added for a combo
shock mount and pop filter system, or an ST2 can be employed
to extend the distance that a Pop Filter can be positioned from
the stand.
Supplied with the SPF are:
1) One Articulated Elbow Stand Mount
2) One 4 inch Hex Bar
3) One 6 inch Hex Bar
4) Two Articulated Hex Connectors
5) One Sabra-Som Pop Filter, with replaceable screens

PAULY
SUPERSCREENS

Ever discover great delight in finding one of those little audio
toys that no one seems to know about, is actually affordable,
yet works like a million bucks? Something that pays for itself
a hundred times over in saved time and effort? Well I've got
something just for you, from a little one man shop hidden away
in the German countryside.
On the
airplane ride home from Munich, I was thinking about this little
screen - the coolest thing at the show! This thing is no ordinary
screen, this deserves some kind of special name. "Superscreen"
would be fitting. I wonder if I should put my TransAudio brand
on it or help Mr. Pauly? No, help Mr. Pauly. So I asked Mr.
Pauly by email if we could call it the Pauly Superscreen. "Yes,
this is acceptable, if this is what you want." Well hell
yes, it deserves his name!
I originally
thought I could sell them to dealers. The trouble was, after
I import them, the dealer makes a little, this thing cost a
small fortune! It would have to be about $225-$250 List price,
and sell for about $175 to $200! I would never sell them at
that price...and I was right-I didn't. A few friends bought
them from me, and that was it. So, not until we finally launched
this TransAudioElite idea that it made sense again. TransAudioElite
can sell them to you at a price that's a genuine BARGAIN ($125
+$5 shipping), and a screen you will use for years and years.
