GML Model 2032
George Massenburg Labs is introducing the all-new GML 2032
mic preamplifier and parametric equalizer.
Heir to thirty years of analog engineering expertise, the Model
2032 boasts discrete class A design in a single rack space unit
and provides an elegant front end solution for recordists. The
unit delivers GML's renowned transparency, reliability, musicality,
and precision. And, for the first time in GML history, the 2032
features an ultra-low-noise internal AC power supply.
Estimated MSRP: $3000
Yes, you read that right. Only $3000
for a Massenburg!
GML 2032 Review in MIX
The ultimate single-channel
input processor:
GML Model 2020

Click for a Larger View.
The GML Model 2020 is a single-channel input processor and
accepts either microphone or line-level signals with phase reversal
and phantom power switches. The equalization, dynamics, and sidechain
sections allow for flexible routing to accommodate any recording
situation. Like all GML equipment, it is constructed of all discrete-transistor,
balanced/symmetrical class-A components and delivers wide-bandwidth,
low-noise, extended dynamic range, and an extremely high slew-rate
audio.
"We designed the Model 2020 based on the 8300 preamplifier, 8200
parametric equalizer, and 8900 dynamics processor," noted George
Massenburg, GML CEO and original inventor of the parametric equalizer.
"The designs are the result of decades of research, prototyping,
manufacturing, and subsequent alterations in our enduring drive
towards engineering completely transparent audio processing. We
conceived of the Model 2020 in response to the growing trend in
'front-end' processing, where a premium is placed on signal processing
before the signal hits tape or, more often, hard disk. Because
such uses often call for only a channel or two at a time, there's
a need for processing power that's long on features (such as preamplification,
equalization, and dynamics processing) and short on channels.
It's a balance between use, features, and price point, and the
Model 2020 fits the niche perfectly."
The 2020 requires one 9015 external power supply.

GML 8200 Parametric Equalizer -
Parametric EQ from the engineer who invented the concept in 1970.

The GML 8200 Parametric Equalizer is the reference standard parametric
EQ from the engineer who invented the concept. The 8200 is a fifth
generation progressive design, the result of ten years of creation
and precise listening analysis. Incorporating the the exclusive
GML op-amp, this unit has no tantalum or electrolytic interstage
or output coupling capacitors. The result is the most natural
of equalizers, with minimum artifacts and signal modification.
This is an all-discrete-transistor unit, and is useful in many
stages of the recording process and highly regarded for it’s extraordinary
resolution, transparency, high headroom, broadly overlapping bands
and ease of use. It fits into a 2U, 19" space and requires the
external GML 8355 Power Supply.
9500 Mastering Equalizer -
This all-discrete program equalizer is similar in circuitry to
the GML 8200; however, all of the controls are fully detented.
It is well-suited to tasks requiring precision control and resetability.
It fits into a 3U, 19" space and requires two external GML
8355 Power Supplies (left and right channels have separate
powering).
8302 Two Channel Microphone
Preamplifier -

This all-discrete-transistor, transformerless unit is highly regarded
for its extraordinary accuracy and transparency, high headroom,
and low noise. Affordably priced, the model 8302 is hand built
and calibrated in limited production quantities using selected
components.Includes switchable phantom powering, fits into a 1U,
19" space, and requires the external GML 8355
Power Supply.

8304 Four Channel Microphone
Preamplifier -

This all-discrete-transistor, transformerless unit is highly regarded
for its extraordinary accuracy and transparency, high headroom,
and low noise. Affordably priced, the four channel model 8304
is hand built and calibrated in limited production quantities
using selected components. Includes switchable phantom powering,
fits into a 1U, 19" space, and requires the external GML
8355 Power Supply.
8900 Dynamic Range Controller -
This two-channel unit with all discrete-transistor audio path
features an extraordinary range of control allowing simulation
of various fundamental automatic gain-control characteristics.
The 8900 is the result of 22 years of research, prototyping, limited
manufacturing, and features two RMS and one peak detector per
channel, multiple variable crest factor controls and selectable
soft/hard knee adjustments. The unit combines highly accurate
log converters, true RMS detectors (which provide control of signal
energy not just level), and other modern analog processing techniques
in a stable "feed-forward" topology. The model 8900 also has side
chain input and fits into a 2U x 19" space and requires the
external GML 9015 Power Supply.
"Dear George:
Frank Filipetti and I are starting to mix a new record for Korn
and we decided to try your 8900 compressor across the stereo buss
of an SSL 9K. Neither of us had ever used one before but I am
so totally thrilled with the results, well, I just had to say
something about it. It is pure gain reduction with no mushing,
pumping or deterioration of transients.
All this, plus it brought out a lovely overall tonal quality to
the program. Excellent work, thanks!
All the best- Michael Beinhorn"

2030 Mastering Dynamic Range Controller
The Model 2030 Mastering Dynamic Gain Control is a precise tool
for mastering and other critical applications where the utmost in control,
flexibility, and transparency is demanded. Based on the proven GML Series
III control and audio architecture, this no-compromise dynamic range controller
continues the GML engineering tradition and expands familiar Model 8900
capabilities, including multi-channel operation.
Requires two 9015 power supplies
8355 Power Supply -

This unit supplies ± 28 volts for the 8200, 8302, 8304 and 9500.
It has enough capacity to power two each of the above units in
any combination.
It is internally switchable between 110 and 220 volts.
