Analog Gates

For many years, Drawmer's name has been synonymous with gates.
Drawmer practically invented the modern gate with the
first reliable,
fast and frequency sensitive gate. Rare to find a studio without
one, the Drawmer gate is "go to" gate for drums and other percussive
sources. Furthermore, according to Pro Sound News Drawmer
gear was used in 6 of the top 10 tours of 2004. Affordable,
the Drawmer gates have a great sound and are built
to last!
Drawmer DSL424 — Two compressors, two gates, one rack
space...
<--- Click for Larger View
Thousands upon thousands of Drawmer units are still in play across
the globe. Some of the most popular include the DS404 four channel
gate, and the DL441 four channel compressor/ limiter. Now Drawmer
has introduced their latest audio tool, combining two channels
of frequency conscious gating with two channels of intuitive compressing
and limiting in one rack space: the DSL424.
The DSL424 allows the audio engineer to utilize high quality gates
and compressors where rack space is at a premium. The frequency
conscious gate channels include high and low pass filtering, allowing
the engineer to dial in the frequency at which gating is triggered
thereby avoiding unwanted triggering by ambient noise. Key listen
mode allows you to listen to the affected material to help you
dial in the correct frequency. A rear panel key input also allows
you to use source material from another channel to trigger the
gate effect. The compressor channels include Threshold, Hard Knee/Soft
Knee, Ratio, Make-up gain, Bypass, and Peak Limiting controls.
Setting up is simplified by the auto attack and release system
which continually optimizes the attack and release times to suit
the dynamics of the material being processed. At its highest ratio
setting, the DSL424 also provides true hard limiting.
Key to the popularity of Drawmer auto gates and compressors is
the fact that the auto circuitry has been designed to allow transient
sounds to pass through cleanly, thus maintaining the clarity and
transparency of the original source. Your mixes therefore become
more present and intelligible in difficult live sound or recording
situations.
Use the DSL424 on snare and kick drum to really bring out the
punch of the rhythm section. Gate the bass with the bass drum
as the key trigger to "tighten things up." Use it on
stereo guitars to get that "in your face" powerful sound.
Use it on the stereo buss to smooth out the overall mix and make
it more "musical" without audible pumping or loss of
clarity, or use it on smaller systems to hard limit the program
material and save stress on your speakers. Most of all, count
on the legendary Drawmer ruggedness and reliability to hold up
under the most gruelling tour or studio situations.

I Need It!
DS201 2 Channel

When this 2 channel noise gate was introduced in 1980, it redefined
the role of the gate both in recording and live sound environments.
It was the world's first frequency conscious gate, allowing the
user to define at which frequency band and level the gate will
trigger. Gated reverb and room ambience suddenly became possible.
Drum sounds were vastly improved. Microphones on tom toms, for
instance, would no longer open with cymbal crashes. Drawmer gates
remain the unchallenged standard worldwide.
Insiders say:
Every studio should have one-you can't mix drums without it!

DS404 Quad noise gate
The 404 adds a unique set of features to the venerable Drawmer
DS201 gate by enabling you to switch channels over to downward
expander node. This is very important if you want to "soft gate"
things like electric guitars through a slew of noisy pedals. A
four channel frequency conscious gate/downward expander that is
perfect for studio situations where you may need for than 2 channels
of gating but are not always sur what you will be asked to gate.
Insiders say:
If you are on a budget, this is an ideal low cost gating solution.
The downward expander mode makes it great for almost anything
that needs isolation from noise.

DS501 Power Gate
What could we do to the DS201 world standard gate? Ivor Drawmer
does it again with the first real innovation in gating in 20 years.
The DS501 adds a dynamic expander circuit to a gate, to restore
attack to sounds that must be gated severely to avoid noise. "Peak
Punch" is a very short duration dynamic expander that is tunable
to nearly any octave wide frequency you choose. This enables you
to "bring the sanre" out of the snare drum, or add low end to
the kick, or retune the conga's after the fact. Amazingly fun
to play with, Peak Punch can used either in tunable mode or full
band mode for gaining a small 6-8dB boost on the front edge of
transients.
Insiders say:
put this on a snare and watch it come alive!

MX40 4channel Punch Gate
The MX 40 has a simplified frequency conscious operation by using
an octave wide filter instead of a High Pass and Low Pass two
knob operation like the Drawmer 201, 501 and 404. This makes it
very easy to tune the gate to the drums, and is faster to set
up, making it ideal for fast moving projecdts where lots of set
up time is not available. In addition, "Peak Punch" has been added
in a full band mode to enable you to "bring out" attacks in drum
sets despite heavy gating. The MX40 is perhaps the best bargain
in drum gates ever.
Insiders say:
If you record drums, this is a must have.
