New! EM-PEQ

A-Designs Audio is proud to present the EM-PEQ for the 500 series format.

Modeled after the classic Pultec “PEQ” the EM-PEQ is the perfect companion for all the A-Designs Audio 500 Series compatible Pre-amplifiers (such as the P-1 and EM-Red, EM-Blue, EM-Gold, and EM-Silver).
After much research and development A-Designs was able to “shrink” this much sought after filter design into the now red-hot 500 series format, without compromise in either build quality or sonics. The filter section design and control layout of the classic PEQ has been maintained. Smooth and musical. Makeup amplification is achieved through the use of A-Designs discrete class AB amplifier as used in the A-Designs Pacifica mic pre.
Fully balanced, noise free operation with modern impedance specs make for dummy proof operation and fast studio integration.
Features include Nickel core output transformer, discrete class AB amplifier (as used in the Pacifica), gold Grayhill rotary switches, Wima caps and a true hard bypass. Instead of using common off the shelf chokes, A-designs uses a custom wound tapped inductor wound to the original values.
The EM-PEQ is an approved API VPR alliance product and may also be used in Brent Averill, and A Designs Audio R52 manufactured by Avedis Audio.
A-Designs is fast becoming the leader in all things 500 series. The EM-PEQ blend of classic sound and modern function is further proof of a company on the rise, putting quality and creative design above all else.

GMLGeorge Massenburg's knowledge of the characteristics of sound and engineering has made him one of the seminal engineers of our time. His extreme scrutinization of every detail carries over from his work as a mastering and recording engineer into his work as a designer of musical equipment that can no longer be described in the realm of "specifications." The inventor of the Parametric EQ, George has continued to hone his skills as designer and engineer over the last several decades and has created product that defies verbal definition. It has to be heard to be believed.

GML 2020The Model 2020 is a single-channel input processor and accepts either microphone or line-level signals with phase reversal and phantom power switches. The equalization, dynamics, and sidechain sections allow for flexible routing to accommodate any recording situation. Like all GML equipment, it is constructed of all discrete-transistor, balanced/symmetrical class-A components and delivers wide-bandwidth, low-noise, extended dynamic range, and an extremely high slew-rate.

"We designed the Model 2020 based on the 8300 preamplifier, 8200 parametric equalizer, and 8900 dynamics processor. The designs are the result of decades of research, prototyping, manufacturing, and subsequent alterations in our enduring drive towards engineering completely transparent audio processing. We conceived of the Model 2020 in response to the growing trend in 'front-end' processing, where a premium is placed on signal processing before the signal hits tape or, more often, hard disk. Because such uses often call for only a channel or two at a time, there's a need for processing power that's long on features (such as preamplification, equalization, and dynamics processing) and short on channels. It's a balance between use, features, and price point, and the Model 2020 fits the niche perfectly."
- George Massenburg

New For 2004!
GML's renowned transparency, reliability, musicality, and precision at a more affordable price!

George Massenburg Labs is introducing the all-new GML 2032 mic preamplifier and parametric equalizer. Heir to thirty years of analog engineering expertise, the Model 2032 boasts discrete class A design in a single rack space unit and provides an elegant front end solution for recordists. And, for the first time in GML history, the 2032 features an ultra-low-noise internal AC power supply.

Insiders say:
Short on price and long on sound. This is the best bargain you will see all year.

GML 8200

GML 8200
The 8200 has been a studio standard for more than 20 years.
A two channel 5 band parametric equalizer, it is the masterpiece of the inventor of parametric equalization, and the archetype for stereo EQ. Its extraordinary resolution, benchmark transparency, generous headroom, and surgical precision have been the reference for many other equalizers, but exceeded by no other.
It requires one 8355 power supply.

Insiders say:
What CAN we say? It is THE standard for recording analog or digital.

GML 9500

GML 9500
The 9500 is the mastering version of the 8200. Dual-mono in operation, requiring two 8355 power supplies, it includes fully detented controls for absolute precision and repeatability. It features 1/2db steps of boost and cut, and 24 frequency choices per band. It is a powerful workhorse, and has grown to become legendary.

Insiders say:
This is the "King of all equalizers."

DRAWMER 1961 2 channel mastering tube EQ

This unit has twelve active tube stages, with a variable input level controls so the user can decide how hard to hit the tubes. Each channel has four overlapping bands of EQ, plus variable high pass and low pass filters with switchable bypass.

Insiders say: This is a great unit for "sweetening", "smoothing", "warming" or "softening" your digital recordings. It's also a fantastic addition to the 1969 for a two channel "tube mixer."

The EQ4P is a discrete Parametric Equalizer with some very unique features.  Notice that the panel has no Q control.  The filter Q control is in relation to the Boost and Cut control, and uses a "Constant Energy Curve", also known as "Proportional Q", that keeps the bandwidth wider at lower boost or cut levels and narrower at higher boost or cut levels.  This is musically pleasing.  The curve is identical to many classic equalizers and is one of the reasons they are preferred over newer designs.  When the PEAK button is pressed, the 3 yellow "peak" buttons keep the width at a constant 1/3 octave for more precise control.

The High Frequency has a Shelving button instead of a Peak button.  Since the Constant Energy Curve is so broad in the lower frequencies, there is no need for a low frequency shelf button.

With 4 bands of controls, each of the lower 2 have slightly different frequencies, allowing the lower band to go to 16 Hz, and the upper 2 bands are identical.  The IN button is a silent IN/OUT button that does not bypass the unit, but bypasses the filters.

The "INPUT" of the V-Rack is the normal EQ input, at a +4 dBu level. The "insert return" input is a padded down input, making the nominal level +10 instead of +4. This can be used when the input level going into the EQ is too hot.
