HM2EQ "The Hammer"
The HAMMER is a dual mono three band tube EQ and the first product from A Designs Audio to incorporate their unique hybrid tube circuit in the gain stage. The design philosophy was simple: to build a great sounding EQ that was highly effective and extremely simple to use. So many of the higher priced EQs in today's market are focused on being precise surgical tools that can isolate frequencies with the greatness of ease. While this is an important concept, sometimes both pros and novices alike simply want to raise or lower a couple frequencies to sweeten the sound of the source material. The Hammer's appearance is an immediate throw back to the vintage tube EQs used on so many classic albums. The top and bottom bands allow for simple shelving at 30-400hz on the low end and 2.5-12k on the high end; The middle band acts as a traditional boost/cut with an automatic varying Q for frequencies between 250hz and 2k; The High cut and Low cut are at 8kHz and 84Hz respectively. It is also one of the few products on the market that delivers an extremely wide Q on lesser boost or cut settings and a narrower one with higher boost or cut settings. As an example, for just a bit more bottom, find the mid freq band, set to 240 and add 2dB of boost. The Hammer makes it easy for novice or expert alike to obtain a great sound fast.
The most important aspect of the Hammer is its ability to simply make everything sound better. What makes this possible is the Hammer's ingenious circuitry in combination with its unique filter (EQ) system. A lot of engineers love tube units for their warm tonality and their ability to impart a special musical (i.e. dynamic) "tone" to audio. In the Hammer, the hybrid circuit is a new kind of design that uses a tube at the input stage of a solid state operational amplifier. This remarkable design results in accurate gain control, low noise and a controlled amount of that dynamic or "magical" tone everyone loves.
